Life is full of surprises and In the year 2016 the universe thought it was time for me to be a mummy and I was blessed with my first baby but things had to change fast. I was faced with remaining in Auckland city around family and unable to give my children the lifestyle I was after or move away from family with the ability to provide a better lifestyle and way of living for my family and me. After 9 months of renting an expensive little unit in west Auckland, my family and I decided this was not what we were after and we packed up and moved to a little town called Tomarata. We went from a little unit to a huge farmhouse on a dairy farm. The time spent there for my children was amazing. They got to see how a dairy farm works and was able to be up close and personal daily with the cattle and calves during calving season, plant huge vegetable gardens and run and play for miles however, If you know what it’s like to be on a dairy farm you will know that if your coming straight from town or are a real softy when it comes to animals i.e Me! probably not the best move but we did it and boy was it an experience. After a year or so on the farm and having another baby, it was time to move on as the owners had to move back to the farm. We relocated 15 minutes into the main town of Wellsford. It wasn’t long after that I started rousing with some local shearers. I would get picked up at around 5am and we would head off to the shearing sheds all over the place, an experience I’m forever grateful for because it led me to where I am today.
Hi, I’m Racquel and it was my experience (or the sheep’s experience) in shearing sheds that led me on a mission to provide a sustainable alternative for animal fibers like wool. Something pulled on my heart, I couldn’t help to think of all the animals who are contributing to the current fashion world, and it didn’t seem right to me, followed by a realization of how bad our current environmental situation is and how our fashion choices significantly impact these two issues, I went back home after a day in the sheds and started thinking! What can I do about this insane feeling to make a difference within the fashion industry, to help all the animals that are farmed, some in cruel conditions just to make the human race look good, how can I help restore our Whenua (land) and Moana (ocean)? and what is our alternative option?
My in-depth research lead me to Hemp! Its healing properties are endless, it can provide us with sustainable alternatives in all categories from clothing to fuel, housing to food, hemp has the ability to help restore our world from top to bottom and everything in between, and yes! all been scientifically proven. Hemp has been used since the beginning of time in fact; Archaeologists found a remnant of hemp cloth in ancient Mesopotamia (currently Iran and Iraq) which dates back to 8,000 BC. Hemp is also believed to be the oldest example of the human industry. You may be thinking “if it’s so amazing what’s the problem?” Hemp was made illegal because it was guilty by association, the casualty of a war against its identical twin. And while the War on Drugs continues, more and more are opening up about the medicinal side of cannabis, therefore shinning a more positive light on cannabis as a whole, this includes Hemp but the stigmatization is still there, therefore education is very important.
Three years and three children later, I introduce Global Hemp NZ to Aotearoa. All thanks to an overwhelming amount of love and concern for animals and our environment, as well as a need to re-educate society on serious issues and stigmatization so that Hemp can be used and appreciated the way it was in the beginning, in saying this we have a long road ahead of us but with passion, motivation, and reason I believe anything can be achieved.
Here at Global Hemp NZ, we have set out on a mission to showcase to the people of Aotearoa (New Zealand) the exceptional Hemp products currently available around the world, how they differ from mainstream products, and the amazing companies behind the products, who are all making positive changes in their homeland all thanks to Hemp. A big part of the Global Hemp’s journey includes providing broad hemp education, this includes both CBD and THC (two of many compounds found in cannabis strains), because without a true and educated perspective on everything that is Hemp, how can we rid the negative stigma so hemp can be appreciated the way it should be.
We aim to provide a safe place for all to learn and engage in what we call the world of cannabis. We aim to re-educate minds on these this valuable plant because without correct knowledge and understanding; do we even know what Hemp is? Why this plant exist? The positive impact Hemp can have on society? With correct and informed education, open minds, and understanding we can all come to appreciate everything that Hemp is, has been, and will be.
Our future consists of designing/ creating a unique interactive look into the world of Hemp, its past, present and future via the Global Hemp NZ retail store, we aim on creating this within the next 5 years.
We would have a very large range of products by then as we aim on stocking everything that can be made from Hemp. Your one stop Hemp shop.
We are so conscious of the carbon footprint of importing our products that a tree for planting comes with every order. Yes, our team will go and plant a tree for every order.
If you have any requests for where you would like your tree to be planted please email email@example.com re: Tree Planting Location
